Knowledge Is Key To Buying and Selling Real Estate By Attorney Miriam L. Sumpter Richard
ARE YOUR REAL PROPERTY TAXES PAID? In November of each year, the real property tax bill comes out. The homeowner has until March of the following year to pay before they become delinquent. Typically, the lender requires that the mortgagor pay in advance, monthly installments for property taxes and insurance, which are held in an escrow account for the mortgagor. That is, the borrower makes payments before the taxes and insurance are due, and then, when due, the taxes and insurance premiums are paid by the lender out of the escrowed funds. If you escrow, now is the time to check with your lender that your real property taxes are paid. You can also verify that your real property taxes are paid by contacting the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s Office at:
601 E. Kennedy Boulevard If you do not escrow, the time is upon you to pay. Should you not have the money, contact the property appraiser’s office, as they have an installment payment program. BOTTOM LINE: MAKE SURE YOUR REAL PROPERTY TAXES ARE PAID.
